Your career is only as successful as your writing. Bad grammar, dull content and misinformation are the three top things that will get your articles rejected and give you a poor reputation. Hopefully these tips will help.

Research - Anything that you write requires research. Never attempt to write if you've not first done some research, even if you believe you know the subject well.

Personality is Key - Boring and informative worked for book reports and term papers, but when someone chooses to read an article or a web page they need to remain interested, regardless of topic. Add a splash of your own wit and personality to what you write.

Introductions are Important - 90% of people who begin an article and get bored within the first paragraph stop reading. It's key that you hold their attention from the get-go with a stellar intro.

Keep Your Resume Updated - Everything you write should be documented on your resume as it is one of the most important tools a writer has, particularly when you are ready to branch out and get some more interesting work.

Try Something New - Don't just write the same stuff over and over, even if you're good at it and it's comfortable. Branching out into different types of writing will strengthen you overall, never be afraid to write on something different.

Sell Yourself - Hate to break it to you, but clients aren't going to come flocking to you just because you've decided to be a writer. You need to get out there, put yourself forward and be confident it yourself and your work.

Ask For Feedback - Each time you write, ask how you've done. Find out if there are ways you can improve on your tonality, your quality, etc. Your clients will respect a writer who is working on improving themselves and may think of you quicker when looking for future writers.

Now That You've Got it - Take that feedback and work with it. When someone expresses to you that your tone is a bit flat, look for ways to make things more engaging. Your research is outdated? Look for more current sources. There's no point in asking for feedback if you are not going to put it into practice.

Keep Learning - You're a freelance writer. You have a steady client base. You may think it's easy from here on in. The most successful writers know that to continue to grow, to keep clients happy they need to keep learning. Don't let your writing get stagnant when there are so many ways to keep yourself up to date and interesting to your clients and readers.
